I felt the class was too deep into the "tinfoil hat" protectionism and not enough actual searching for open source information. Also, the instructor stated he would email a list of open source sites to assist in investigations and he did not. All in all, I felt like the class was a waste of my time and of my department's training budget.

I anticipated more of a practical class about conducting open source investigations, as in we all walkthrough the process of obtaining open source info for a suspect... conducting practical exercises of a fictitious suspect account.

The instructor was fine with the material, but there needed to be more hands on, like make a psudo person and find them on line. There was not much open source. I still feel like I need to get warrants written to get the information.

There was too many sources that were quickly discussed and moved on before any notes or discussion about applications. I would quickly jot down the website then the instructor would move to another website. I did not get much from the class and was very put off by getting a sales pitch for access to a lot of the information that was discussed over the two days. I would rather see application of the websites and how an investigator would be able to best use each one. I would also like to see just the top/best sites to access specific information. I don't need to have several sites discussed that do the same thing. Those other sites could be listed on training documents as additional references. Overall the class was mostly boring and I lost interest after the first day.
