Would perhaps be helpful to print and attach the power point slides to the manual so students can more easily follow along. Might also be helpful, since students have computers, to do some hands-on open source searches as part of exercises or case studies.

I think it was a good basic course to know whats out there, but handouts or info to put on a thumb drive to use for preservation letters, search warrants, or actual phrases or ways to search on the different apps would be beneficial. Michael Hernandez was personable and a good speaker.

Would have liked a little more hands on practice if possible, maybe a little less background on some of the social media. Super great info about the proxy servers, etc. and other ways to help keep us protected when utilizing UC accounts and how to search social media. Great info about google and google voice.

Some portions of the training and tips from the instructor will be very useful. I would have liked to have seen a little more in regards to “hacks” or other legal ways to locate information on social media profiles that may have privacy settings blocking the information.

The course was good for novice and first time online investigator, like me. I will use some of the tips and websites regularly.

I had high expectations for this course and was looking forward to attending. We were told to bring computers. They way the room was set up, the class was spread across the room because of the power outlets. Power sources should have been provided to keep the class together. Being spread out made it hard to hear the instructor. We barely used the computers. This class could have been covered in one day. We had long breaks and class was cut short. I believe mostly because the instructor did not have enough material for the time. The class was aware of most of the online investigations prior to this training. I am not sure what is in the advanced online investigations class but I think the 2 courses could be combined. I understand that we could not write search warrants or subpoenas but we could have created accounts on the various platforms so that we could take them back to our department. I thought I would be walking away from class with the start of cultivating online identities that we could use in our investigations. I have not been to formal online investigation class before, my knowledge has come from working cases and learning from other investigators. I had hoped to leave training with some skills my peers did not have.

I was hoping for more hands on training in using the various social media sites. The instructor was good, but I was hoping to take some more investigative techniques out of it. Actual use of the computer and having us go to the various sites to do some example investigating would have been helpful. The manual didn't seem to be needed for the class as it was never really referred to during the class.

Class was very informative, interesting, and got people to think creatively. It would be nice to come away with examples of wording for legal orders for various companies so that those who don't have as much technology experience get the request right. It would also be nice to go through some examples of search warrant responses (ie Facebook) to learn what to look for and what more can be done from the responses.
