This course introduces law enforcement analysts, investigators, supervisors, and public safety professionals to the practical, responsible, and defensible use of artificial intelligence in investigative and intelligence work. Students will learn what AI is, what it is not, where it can support public safety workflows, and where it creates risk.
The course emphasizes AI as a decision-support tool, not a replacement for analyst judgment, investigative experience, legal process, or supervisory responsibility. Students will practice using AI for appropriate tasks such as summarization, organization, brainstorming, pattern support, timeline assistance, product drafting, and validation planning. Students will also examine risks related to hallucinations, bias, privacy, sensitive data, overreliance, documentation, and courtroom scrutiny.
Nicole McKendree
Nicole McKendree is a seasoned law enforcement analyst and instructor with over a decade of experience spanning patrol, criminal intelligence, and analytical training. She currently serves as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst for the Arkansas Department of Corrections within the Arkansas State Fusion Center, where she focuses on gangs, fugitives, high-risk offenders, and intelligence support for local and national law enforcement partners.
Nicole’s career began in uniformed patrol with the Conway Police Department and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, where she later became the agency’s first full-time Crime Analyst. She went on to serve as Senior Intelligence Analyst with the Arkansas State Police, leading tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis projects, producing threat assessments, and providing operational intelligence for major events and investigations.
An accomplished educator, Nicole teaches through Police Technical, specializing in Microsoft Excel for law enforcement, mapping, critical thinking, and i2 Analyst’s Notebook. She also serves with the National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College, expanding her reach to public safety professionals nationwide. In addition, she founded Consultalytics to provide analyst training, consulting, and mentorship, helping agencies optimize their data-driven decision-making.
Nicole holds a Master of Science in Criminology – Homeland Security from Texas A&M University–Commerce and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology–Criminology from the University of Central Arkansas. Her credentials include IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook certification, Basic Analyst Certification, DDACTS Analyst Certification, and Basic Peace Officer Certification. She has been recognized with honors such as the NNFC Southern Shield Analyst of the Year and the NARCAN Life Saving Award.
