OSIWhile there are many portals to the internet, many crimes happen on open, social platforms.  POLICE TECHNICAL works with agencies to evaluate their current investigation standards, including reactive, and proactive investigative processes.  We then use tactics highlighted in our nationally acclaimed class Open Source Investigations and customize them for the specific agency.

Diffusing the "Self Destructing" App

Investigating cases involving Snapchat can be difficult. The application is designed to destroy the very evidence law enforcement officers need to investigate and prove a criminal case. But are the images actually gone? Is it possible to retrieve them? Even if they are gone, are there other types and sources of information that can be used in a criminal investigation?

Mark Stephens is an Investigator with a prosecutor’s office Missouri.  A 24-year law enforcement veteran he began his career with a Sheriff’s Department in the Kansas City area.  During his tenure with the department, Mr. Stephens was assigned to develop the departments well known Cyber Crimes Unit. Mark is a pioneer in the Cyber Crimes Community and conducted hundreds of proactive online investigations.  Mark has consulted and worked with numerous Federal, State and Local agencies.

Kevin Keane, Instructor

Kevin Keane is a 13 year law enforcement veteran who currently works in a Police Department in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

He received an associate’s in criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in business management.  Currently he is an active criminal investigator having membership in numerous task forces including: Major Investigation Assistance Team, Illinois Attorney General’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, Cook County Regional Organized Crime Task Force, and an Accident Investigation Team.
