This course introduces law enforcement analysts, investigators, supervisors, and public safety professionals to the practical, responsible, and defensible use of artificial intelligence in investigative and intelligence work. Students will learn what AI is, what it is not, where it can support public safety workflows, and where it creates risk.

The course emphasizes AI as a decision-support tool, not a replacement for analyst judgment, investigative experience, legal process, or supervisory responsibility. Students will practice using AI for appropriate tasks such as summarization, organization, brainstorming, pattern support, timeline assistance, product drafting, and validation planning. Students will also examine risks related to hallucinations, bias, privacy, sensitive data, overreliance, documentation, and courtroom scrutiny.
